Donita Large & The Small Band | Indigenous Series

All Indigenous Series events are “pay what you can,” starting at $5 and up. Proceeds from this event will go towards the Indigenous Artist Market Collective (I.A.M.)

Donita Large is a Cree singer-songwriter that can lift the hair on the back of your neck when you experience her singing and feel the story in her songs. Donita has released 3 powerful singles into the universe since the great pause of the pandemic and she is set to release more. Donita’s first single “Going to Walk That Line” hit #1 on the Indigenous Music Countdown. After Donita’s first single, she has become a sought-out performer. Donita has sung at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival, Ravenwood Festival, Toronto’s Nuit Blanche Festival, K-Day’s Indigenous Peoples Experience and more.

For Donita’s second and third single she paired up with renowned Producer Chris Birkett, who produced work by notable artists such as Buffy Sainte Marie, Sinead O’Connor, Steve Earle, and Led Zepplin. Donita and Chris are now collaborating on a full-length album. This album will be a collection of songs that honour and acknowledge her ancestors, and the collective stories of Indigenous Nations that interweave truth, reconciliation, intergenerational trauma, empowerment, and healing. The first songs written for this album will be featured at her upcoming show, “Songs of Reconciliation” in honour of the National Day of Truth & Reconciliation.

Join us in the Maclab lobby from 6 – 7 p.m. before the show for a free Metis Dance Workshop. The Interactive Jigging Session, hosted by Connie Kulhavy, consists of sharing traditional dances and Metis history and culture through music. Tickets to Donita Large not required to participate.

The event is finished.
